An autopsy case (85-year-old Japanese male) of myeloperoxidase- (MPO-) positive acute myeloid leukemia with maturation (M1)\naccompanying megakaryocytic differentiation is presented. The patient manifested acute coronary syndrome. Even after emergent\npercutaneous coronary intervention, his performance status remained poor, so no chemotherapy against leukemia was given. The\nfinal white blood cell count reached.....................................
Granulosa cell tumors belong to the group of stromal and sex cord tumors of\nthe ovary. The adult type is the most common type and usually occurs during\nthe perimenopausal period while the juvenile type mostly affects young\nwomen. This is a report of a 26 years old woman who presented an adult type\nof granulosa cells tumor, with review of the literature. She complained abdominal\npain and distension associated with abundant ascites and underwent a\nright adnexectomy. The pathology examination diagnosed an adult granulosa\ncell tumor. The two entities of granulosa cell tumors (juvenile and adult\ntypes) are distinguished by their characteristic morphological aspects on histological\nexamination allowing diagnostic orientation....
Angiodysplasia is a common type of lesion characterized by malformed submucosal and mucosal blood vessels. Angiodysplasia of\nthe gallbladder is extremely rare, usually an incidental finding, with only two cases reported. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a\ncurative treatment for angiodysplasia of the gallbladder. Our report describes a case of angiodysplasia of the gallbladder in a\npatient who underwent elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy for biliary colic because of gallstones, and a systematic literature\nreview. We surmise that angiodysplasia of the gallbladder could be a risk factor for gallstones in younger female patients....
Background. The one-stage assay is the most common method to measure factor VIII activity (FVIII : C) in hemophilia A patients.\nThe chromogenic assay is another two-stage test involving purified coagulation factors followed by factor Xa-specific chromogenic\nsubstrate. Aim. This study aimed to assess the discrepancy and correlation between the chromogenic and one-stage assays in\nmeasuring FVIII :C levels in hemophilia patients receiving Extended Half-Life ...........................
Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of the breast is a rare biphasic tumor composed of intermixed malignant epithelial and\nmyoepithelial components. Myoepithelial cells are known to adopt varied morphologies, including spindle, chondroid, clear cell,\nand rhabdoid morphologies, and can represent a diagnostic challenge when isolated on biopsy. Rhabdomyosarcoma, phyllodes\ntumor, metaplastic carcinoma, and myoepithelial carcinoma are primary breast tumors that all have been shown to exhibit\nrhabdoid features, whether representing true differentiation or morphological mimic. We here report an epithelial-myoepithelial\ncarcinoma of the breast with rhabdoid features in a 76-year-old woman. The rhabdoid-appearing myoepithelial cells are\nnegative for myogenin, consistent with a rhabdoid-like morphology rather than a true rhabdoid differentiation, comparably to\npreviously described myoepithelial carcinoma with rhabdoid features. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of\nepithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of the breast with rhabdoid features and thus adds another entity to the differential diagnosis\nof breast lesions with rhabdoid features....
Background: Serum lipids were reported to be the prognostic factors of various cancers, but their prognostic value\nin malignant biliary tumor (MBT) patients remains unclear. Thus we aim to assess and compare prognosis values of\ndifferent serum lipids, and construct a novel prognostic nomogram based on serum lipids.\nMethods: Patients with a confirmed diagnosis of MBT at our institute from 2003 to 2017 were retrospectively\nreviewed. Prognosis-related factors were identified via univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses. Then the\nnovel prognostic nomogram and a 3-tier staging system were constructed based on these factors and further\ncompared to the TNM staging system.\nResults: A total of 368 patients were included in this study.................................
